We Need More Films Like Black Box
/How many times have you watched a horror film and the first person to go was the black character? They somehow just couldn’t keep up with their white friends or took a wrong turn down an unassuming hallway. Or maybe there was no black character at all (like in Tim Burton movies because he said they don’t fit his aesthetic). Maybe you’ve watched films like “Get Out” or “Antebellum”, where the horror revolved around the character’s blackness. The horror was being black in America. Can we see something different?

I turned 25 years old this month, and it has been a journey getting here. Scientifically, your brain is supposed to be fully developed at 25, so I guess there is no longer an excuse for being a knucklehead anymore. But the truth is, I still feel 12 years old—unsure of myself, worried about making friends, and fighting off acne on my forehead. All of those challenges remain, except now I have a light bill to pay too.
