8 Podcasts You Need to Get Into!

8 Podcasts You Should Get Into.png

Podcasts have become my jam during the pandemic. I listen on Apple Podcasts, but I know Spotify has a great catalog as well. They’re great for multitasking—I listen to them while I do homework or clean my room. They’re also great for winding down after a long day—I listen to them in the bathtub or when I’m doing my skincare routine. Not only are they convenient, but they’re also fun! You can listen to podcasts about everything under the sun, from murder mysteries to a breakdown of the Star Wars universe. Here are eight of my favorite podcasts right now! I’ve included links to Apple Podcasts, as well as Spotify Podcasts, so you can easily listen with me!

1. GirlBoss Radio

Hosted by Sophia Amoruso, the founder of Nasty Gal, this podcast features conversations about all facets of womanhood and interviews with fabulous girl bosses such as Rupi Kaur and Elaine Welteroth. I listen to this podcast whenever I need encouragement regarding my writing and career path. This podcast is a great reminder that even the “greats” started small.

2. The Black Girl Bravado Podcast

Hosted by two best friends (also my sorority sisters), this podcast is all about fellowship and healing. My favorite series was the “Love Is….” series, which focuses on how to cultivate healthy relationships. If you want to feel like a self-aware, grown woman this is the podcast for you.

3. Can We Steal You For A Second?

Ok, if you’re not a fan of The Bachelor, skip to the next one. If you are, please look no further than this witty, delightful commentary on the famous/infamous show. These girlfriends provide the perfect 2020-style chaotic commentary you need when watching this sometimes confusing show. If you’ve ever been lost on which Hannah the host was into, this is the show for you.

4. legi-slay-te

So I’m a bit biased because this podcast is run by my close friend, Alaysia Johnson, but I have to say this podcast is the political boss babe energy we need going into 2021. Alaysia breaks down all the governmental issues you didn’t learn about in Civics class as well as her law school journey, which all us legal girls can relate to. If you want to be involved in public service someday or just be informed, this is the podcast for you.

5. Why Won’t You Date Me?

This podcast gives me the giggles. Through interviews with famous celebs, host, Nicole Byer discusses all the elements of relationships and female sexuality. My favorite episode is “105: What It’s Like to Finally Date a Good Guy"! If you have been deprived of some quality girl chat, this is the podcast for you.

6. Growing With the Flow

I found this podcast through the host, Nayna Patel’s Youtube channel. She’s one of my favorite YouTubers, so when she started a podcast, I knew I had to listen. It did not disappoint. Nayna talks about everything from her veganism to growing up as a mixed-race woman in London. If you are looking for a podcast with calming, earthy vibes, this is the podcast for you.

7. The Crown Official Podcast

If you haven’t seen the Netflix show, “The Crown” stop here and go watch. Just kidding! Seriously though, as an avid watcher of the show, the podcast adds a whole new level of information about the real history behind the show. You also can hear from the cast, costume designers, and directors about their visions and the history behind their performances. It’s really stunning stuff. If you are a fan of the British royal family or just a history lover, this is the podcast for you.

8. Therapy for Black Girls

Last, but certainly not least, this podcast is a new addition to my library. It is hosted by licensed psychologist Dr. Joy Harden Bradford. She covers all aspects of mental health including ways to stay mentally healthy during the pandemic. My favorite episode so far is “The Current Dating Landscape”, which breaks down how to date in a pandemic and how to break into the dating app world. If you want to learn more about mental health, this is the podcast for you.

As you can see, I listen to podcasts about all kinds of topics. I love podcasts so much I’ve considered starting my own! They’re a great way to gain knowledge in a fun way. I’m always looking for new additions to my library, so if you have any podcast recommendations, please leave them below! Additionally, share this post with your fellow podcast-loving friends!
