7 YouTubers You Need to Watch ASAP
/YouTube is Gen Z cable, I told my mom the other day. And it’s true. I watch YouTube so much more than cable television and look forward to new video uploads like new releases on Netflix. Finding the right YouTubers that fit your interests and style can be difficult. Finding popular YouTubers of color can be even more difficult, so I’ve saved you some time with a few of my favorites. All women of color, so enjoy!
Linh Truong (@withlovelinh)
Why I love this channel: Linh’s sweet and colorful spirit is so uplifting on a bad day. Between her fashion, entrepreneurial spirit, and general fun antics, you’ll fall in love with Linh. I’ve especially appreciated her quarantine content, which has assured me that everyone is lonely, confused, and looking for ways to be creative. Give this beauty a try and take a look at her Etsy shop, where she sells beautiful stickers and such!
2. Kelly Stamps (@thekellystamps)
Why I love this channel: Kelly Stamps is comedic gold! She discusses childhood trauma and anxiety through comedy, which is #relatable. She discusses sustainability and minimalism, which she attributes to her growing control over her anxiety and depression. The New York YouTuber also addresses black women in media and how often they are put into tight, little boxes; dating as a 20-something in New York; and bossing up to become your own boss. If you like Parks and Rec or #GirlBoss, this is the channel for you. (Kelly reminds me of Audrey Plaza’s character in P & R so much!)
3. Nayna Florence (@naynaflorence)
Why I love this channel: She’s British. Nuf said. Just kidding, Nayna is a delight to watch. Her channel has such a calming aesthetic as she discusses fashion, health, and life at a Scottish university. Most recently, she’s been opening up about life as a mixed-race woman and how that has affected her view of the world. If you like calming, lifestyle videos (or British accents), you’ll greatly appreciate Nayna Florence. Give her a look!
4. Girl and The Word (@girlandtheword)
Why I love this channel: This channel has provided me so much light in my darkest days. Girl and The Word is a Christian, design channel. Unexpected, right? Anh, the channel’s owner, is an avid home designer, homemade tea-drinker, gardener, and lover of Christ. She uses her calming aesthetic to bring God’s word to all her viewers. Even if you’re not into home design, you could close your eyes and just listen to Anh’s narration, in which she talks about how God is currently working in her life and how everyday activities bring her closer to her faith. You won’t regret giving her a look.
5. Stephanie Vega (@stephaniev16)
Why I love this channel: Stephanie Vega is light itself. She’s all about fashion and feeling good in your own skin. An avid thrifter and deal-finder, Stephanie focuses on finding pieces that suit all body types. She also discusses her dating life (or rather her lack of one, which again #relatable), makeup, and just living a happy, fulfilling life. If you like fashion and positive vibes, this college senior is the YouTuber for you.
6. BestDressed (@best.dressed)
Why I love this channel: I have to admit—out of all of these wonderful women, BestDressed’s uploads are the ones I most look forward to. Similar to Kelly Stamps (who BestDressed introduced me to), Ashley/BestDressed makes light of the challenges of being a woman in 2020. She’s a recent college grad, who changed all her life plans to pursue fashion in New York City—during a pandemic. BestDressed is the reason I chose to only buy sustainable this year. She’s the reason I’ve taken more control over my passions and desires. She’s the reason I’ve become a plant mom. Long story short: she’s a literal icon. Please watch her videos.
7. itsyuyan (@itsyuyann)
Why I love this channel: Yuyan is a delight. She mostly focuses on fashion hauls, which is great if you’re looking for the latest products at popular brands like: PrettyLittleThing, Princess Polly, Urban Outfitters, and Aritzia. She also does “day-in-the-life” videos, which highlight her life in New York with her adorable dog and boyfriend. If fashion is your jam, this channel is perfect for you.
